About the Grenada Agricultural Information Service (GAIS)

Managing any agricultural enterprise is a challenge. Farmers and fisher folk face daily risks and constant uncertainties. One of the principal means of assisting farmers and fisher folk is through the provision of information – what, when and where it is needed.

The GAIS is designed to assist the country’s farmers and fisher folk by providing them with timely and accurate information through the publication of its "Food & Farm Grenada" Weekly Bulletin and Bi-Monthly Newsletter; and the operation of its dedicated Web Portal.

The GAIS is a joint project and service of: the Agency for Reconstruction and Development (ARD), the Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Forestry & Fisheries (MALFF) and the Marketing and National Importing Board (MNIB) sponsored by Republic Bank (Grenada) Limited. The GAIS Project Team and Editorial Committee are as follows: Richard de Lima,Yvonne Tillock and Nancy McGuire of the ARD; Cecil Winsborrow,Technical Adviser; Christian Chu Fook - Information Technology Specialist, ModOne; Fitzroy James, MNIB; La Verne Mapp, MALFF; and Sherma Mitchell, Republic Bank.

GAIS information is widely and openly distributed through the Internet, Republic Bank outlets, MALFF stations and agricultural extension officers and MNIB retail stores.

Although primarily aimed at Grenada’s farmers and fisher folk, GAIS information is also intended to serve hotel, restaurant and supermarket operators and consumers at large with information to assist with their purchasing decisions.

The GAIS welcomes all stakeholders especially Grenada’s farmers and fisher folk to the launch of its service and looks forward to receiving feedback from all of its users. The GAIS would like to know more about the kind of information needed to make the country’s farming and fishing activities more productive. Please provide us with contact information.
